This two-class series offers a comprehensive introduction to creating two-piece ceramic molds. The process begins with the careful selection of a master model, which is the original object you intend to replicate. Students are encouraged to bring their own model items, such as a small figurine, cup, dish, or bowl, or they may choose to use a piece provided by the studio. It is important that the chosen model is free of undercuts, which could hinder its smooth removal from the finished mold.
Throughout this series, students will receive expert guidance on preparing the surface of their chosen model, mixing and applying plaster, and constructing the necessary walls around the master model. A key focus will be on accurately dividing the model roughly in half along a natural seam or design line. This crucial step establishes the parting line, which is essential for creating the two distinct halves of the mold. By the end of the workshop, participants will have successfully created a functional two-piece ceramic mold.
