Dan Slager

EDUCATION COORDINATOR | CERAMICS INSTRUCTOR

ABOUT ME

Dan is a native of Monroe, WA - born and raised, and lives there to this day.

From a young age, he was always curious and creative - an artistic drive nurtured by his mother and grandma. The distinct smell of the local Ben Franklin craft store still stirs memories of meaningful art projects as a kid.

Dan's passion for pottery began in the early 2000s during his year at Everett Community College. An art elective was required, and he enrolled in Ceramics because the course had available spots. Fatefully, the instruction there, guided by Thom Lee, proved to be the perfect catalyst for his interest in clay. His continued artistic pursuits led him to college in Iowa, where he earned a degree in graphic design.

Shortly after returning home, Dan received a free potter’s wheel and a small kiln (both circa 1974) from his father’s connections within the local communities. These sat in a shed for 15 years while his career path led Dan further into the land surveying industry, waiting for the opportunity to be rediscovered and dusted off. This opportune moment came in 2023 while seeking a change from the corporate survey world and a return to his creative roots.

Today, Dan has set up a humble studio in his garage with the old and finicky potter’s wheel and kiln, and has re-dedicated himself to continuing his creative pursuits. His passion for the arts has been reignited, fueled by his involvement with the creative community at Burkhead Art Center. Come stop by, say hi, and get your hands dirty! : )
